Location

Tyn-y-Castell is about five miles from the friendly little market town of Rhayader. It lies just a short distance from a single-track road and is approached via a track which continues on up onto the hills. It is about two miles to the Elan Valley Visitors Centre and the beginning of the road round the lakes. There are numerous footpaths and way marked walks and cycle tracks all passing through some of the most beautiful countryside in the British Isles. Most importantly it is immensely peaceful and totally uncrowded and unspoilt.

Take a scenic drive following this route around the Claerwen Reservoir

https://my.viewranger.com/route/details/MTQ4MDk2NQ==

Also known as Claerwen Dam North, this is a very scenic route along a trail overlooking the reservoir. Very easy trail. If you drive from the Dam, you will need to turn around when reaching the northern gate, unless you get permission to drive via Teifi Pools from Elan Valley Trust.
